Kubernetes and Serverless: the best of both worlds

When to use orchestrated containers, when to use on-demand functions and how to combine them in a single platform.

Kubernetes and Serverless: the best of both worlds

Kubernetes has become the de facto standard for orchestrating containers and running distributed applications at scale. Its model of pods, services and controllers provides a powerful abstraction for deploying and scaling applications.

Serverless architectures complement it with execution that requires no server management for specific tasks. Combining both enables hybrid platforms: Kubernetes for long-running workloads and serverless for event-driven, on-demand processing.

Good practices include autoscaling, service mesh (Istio, Linkerd), secrets management (Vault), observability (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry) and blue-green or canary deployments to reduce risk in production.
